Any body know why internet explorer 8 keeps stopping when I try to attach an item to the email.

The problem has started 5 days ago,  as soon as I press the attach button to add a photo or file,  internet explorer shuts down.
I have tried everything I know,  internet reset,  system restore back 2 weeks,  installing explorer 9, and yet the problem remains.
Any ideas please, I am desperate.
I am running Vista home edition,
Internet explorer 8 .
Security,  McAfee full pagage,  have had this for the last 4 years.
