All Office products crashing when opening files

I am having a problem which I can only trace to Windows Explorer not playing nicely with Office 2007.
I can't open any files with any of the products I use (Excel and Access mostly with a little Word thrown in) unless the file is located on my machine.
Any
attempt to open a file across my network results in a crash and a message that "Microsoft Excel (or Word or Access, as the case may be) has stopped working." And I can only open the local file if I do double-click in Windows Explorer.
If I open Word or Excel
and click on "Open file", i get the same crash and the same message.
I am running Windows 7 using Windows Security Essentials as my anti-malware.
I have scanned for viruses use SE and MicroTrend's House Doctor, and no malware has been found.
I think that maybe a necessary service has been stopped, or perhaps some part of
the code has gone buggy.
This machine is only about a month old, and worked fine up until about a week ago.
In fact, I was just using Excel yesterday, and today I can't.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Finally got the problem resolved.
It had to do with an administrator rights issue.

When the ShareFile Drive Mapping program was installed, it was not installed with administrator rights.
I uninstalled, rebooted, and re-installed as an administrator.
Everything works fine now.
